“The unique school site offers an interesting view from the gymnasium into other farmer’s fields – a pretty cool feature for an elementary school.”

Peter Duckworth, Principal

The school is sited on a former farmer’s field on the outskirts of town which meant it had the benefit of slightly larger site than normal. However, a larger budget didn’t come with the larger site. We used a section for a standard soccer field but there was still an undeveloped section which we turned into a Parkour course. There are stations where students can do a cross-country run and a variety of athletic activities. We were able to make use of this increased site in a cost effective and interesting way which the students have really enjoyed.  It provides a unique experience beyond the standard school field.

The gym is on one end of the school with quite a bit of glazing to allow for natural light. It is north facing so there is very little glare but blinds are still used to control the light when needed. Because it is an elementary school in a smaller community, we did a full wood sprung floor and a slightly larger gymnasium than normal so it can support community use. It has been designed so it is integrated into the school but can be quite easily separated to function for community use.  The unique school site offers an interesting view from the gymnasium into other farmer’s fields – a pretty cool feature for an elementary school.
