It was important for the Board to have internal mechanical systems which gives it a longer life, is more accessible and therefore more easily maintained. There is a centralized heating and cooling plant with a diesel fuel generator in case of a loss of power. This is much more efficient than a battery powered system.
HVAC – Indoor central VAV system, with high efficiency hydronic heating and centrifugal chiller and cooling tower and heat recovery wheel. This is a cost effective, system which allows for temperature control of hydronic perimeter heating in the ceiling and frees up value floor space.
BAS – state of the art direct digital control (DDC) Building Automation System (BAS) allows for a permanent monitoring of energy usage and control to ensure building performance. Building systems adapt to its use and environment. Occupancy sensors provided to ensure lights are off when rooms are not in use.
Water Use Reduction – low flow plumbing fixtures used throughout the school for minimum of 30% less potable water usage throughout the school than then National Model Building.
